Analog Devices Accelerates Development of Mobile TV Receivers for China

Analog Devices Inc. (NYSE: ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal-processing applications, today announced it has collaborated with Legend Silicon Corp., a leading supplier of silicon solutions for broadband wireless broadcasting, to accelerate the development of mobile TV receivers for China with the industry’s first digital TV standard-compliant receiver solution. The companies will demonstrate this solution for China’s newly established terrestrial TV broadcast standard at the International Mobitv Summit & Show 2006 in Shenzhen, China, on September 1 and 2. The new digital terrestrial TV broadcasting standard, coded GB 20600-2006, was announced by the Standardization Administration of China on August 30, 2006, and will come into effect on August 1, 2007. Legend Silicon is the first company to provide a demodulator compliant with the standard.

Free Click ‘N Run Service for Linspire and Freespire Users

Linspire, Inc., developer of the commercial desktop Linux operating system of the same name and Freespire, the free community desktop Linux operating system, announced the immediate change in pricing for its popular CNR (“Click ‘N Run”) Service from an annual subscription fee based offering to a completely free service. The CNR Service, with access to over 20,000 desktop Linux applications, has previously been available only with annual subscriptions, ranging from $20 to $50, but will now be offered as a free service for all Linspire and Freespire users.

Goodbye Philips Semiconductors, Hello NXP

Philips Semiconductors CEO Frans van Houten today revealed the company will move forward as NXP, marking a milestone in its 53 year history as it becomes independent from Royal Philips. The name change announcement follows an agreement between Royal Philips and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), Bain Capital, Silver Lake Partners, Apax and AlpInvest Partners NV that will see the consortium take an 80.1 percent stake in the semiconductor operation with Philips retaining a 19.9 percent interest. NXP is Europe’s second largest semiconductor company and a global top 10 player.

EMCORE Sells GELcore to GE for $100 Million

EMCORE Corporation (Nasdaq: EMKR), a leading provider of compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber optic, satellite, and solar power markets, today announced that it has sold its 49% membership interest in GELcore, LLC to the Lighting operations of GE Consumer & Industrial, a division of General Electric (GE) for $100 million in cash. GE owned a 51% membership interest in GELcore prior to acquiring the remaining 49% from EMCORE.

MOSAID Adds Two More Patents to Infringement Complaint

MOSAID Technologies Incorporated (TSX:MSD) today announced that it has filed an amended complaint asserting two additional patents to its patent infringement claims against Micron Technology, Inc., Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation and ProMOS Technologies. Filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, the complaint now alleges infringement of 11 of MOSAID’s U.S. patents.

Parco, Sysgen Track Patients at Assisted Living and Nursing Homes

Parco Wireless, a leading provider of Precision Indoor Location Technologies used for real-time tracking of assets and people, today announced a new $4 million deal with Sysgen Data, LTD for applications within the nursing home and retirement care communities. Sysgen Data is a U.S. based developer and integrator of information services and closed looped applications using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The arrangement calls for the development and deployment of Parco Wireless’ tracking system for more than 75 long-term care facilities in the New York tri-state area.

TEK Microsystems Opens Center in UK for Design and Engineering

TEK Microsystems, Inc. of Chelmsford MA today announced the formation of TEK Microsystems Limited, a subsidiary design, engineering and support center in Malvern, United Kingdom. The center will continue to extend the product development and distribution relationship between TEK Microsystems and the Real Time Embedded Systems (RTES) group of QinetiQ. Under the direction of Dr. Bill Smith and initially staffed by several former QinetiQ RTES engineers, the Malvern center will focus on further development of the VXS-based products and cores originally designed by QinetiQ and now licensed to TEK Microsystems. The center will also provide customer support services for TEK Microsystems’ customers throughout Europe.
