DATE’07 celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Design Automation and Test in Europe conference. Today, DATE is not known merely as a European event, but has emerged as the leading global event for system-level design of system-on-chips and complex embedded systems, with speakers coming from all five continents and almost fifty countries.
DATE brings together designers and design automation users, researchers and vendors, as well as specialists in the hardware and software design, test and manufacturing of electronic circuits and systems. It puts strong emphasis on both ICs/SoCs, reconfigurable hardware and embedded systems, including embedded software.
DATE is moving to a new location: Nice. It is an easily-accessible city, with 42 airlines serving the Côte d’Azur Airport and direct flights from 24 different countries. The area surrounding Nice and Sophia Antipolis is well-known as a European hot-spot for R&D activities in embedded system, wireless system and SoC Design. Examples of leading companies located in the area include Texas Instruments, STMicroelectronics, Philips and Infineon.
A co-operation with the SAME Association (Sophia Antipolis MicroElectronics) has been set-up to reach the local community.
Nice is naturally also a very attractive place for after hour socializing and to extend your visit with a few days off. The climate is expected to be mild with an average maximum temperature of 18°C!
New Structural Initiative for the Technical Conference
The Call for Papers has been overhauled to offer a clearer reflection of the current system design landscape.
To acknowledge the growing importance of system-level design and to emphasize the importance of showing the applicability of methods and tools in actual designs, the former Designers’ Forum has been merged into the regular conference as a track on Applications Design. This trend is supported by the System Design Records initiative, focusing on SoC chip designs and system designs based on FPGAs or other platforms, which have achieved a specific record compared to state-of-the-art.
Paper authors will be asked to submit to one of four theme groups according to the content of their paper:
Track D: Design Methods, Tools, Algorithms and Languages, addressing design automation and design tools for electronic and embedded systems. Emphasis is on methods and tools related to the use of computers in designing products. This includes designer feedback on existing design methods and tools as well as to initiate discussions on requirements of future system architectures, design flows and environments.
Track A: (former Designers’ Forum), Applications Design, is devoted to the presentation and discussion of design experiences with a high degree of industrial relevance, as well as innovative design methodologies and applications of specific design technologies in an industrial context. Contributions should illustrate state-of-the-art designs, which will provide viable solutions in tomorrow’s silicon systems.
Track T: Test Methods, Tools and Innovative Experiences, addressing design-oriented embedded test solutions as well as defect analysis, modeling, test generation and silicon debugging. Emphasis is on both system- and chip-level test.
Track E: Embedded Software is devoted to modeling, analysis, design and deployment of Embedded Software. Areas of interest include formal methods, tools, methodologies and development environments. Emphasis will also be on embedded software platforms, software integration and portability issues.
The Systems Design Records track, which was a new initiative at last year’s conference, will be strengthened for DATE 07, both for SoC embedded system designs as well as FPGA, Digital Signal Processor and board level embedded system designs.
There will be an increase in the number of industrial design papers, including an invited session where major European design companies will present on best practice.
All manuscripts for any of the D, A, T, E technical topics must be submitted for review electronically, following the instructions on the conference Web page.
Submission deadline: September, 10th, 2006.
Special Topic Days in the program will focus on two areas bringing new challenges to the system design community:
Ubiquitous Communication and Computation – This day will focus on applications, architectures and programming models for ubiquitous computation, security and trust for ubiquitous communication, as well as on design, verification and testing of ubiquitous systems. It will also investigate the influence of the changing business models in this field on the design requirements.
Special Topic Day Chair:
Petri Liuha, Nokia Research Center, Finland
Space and Aeronautics – This day will focus on technology transfer from and to the space and aeronautics industries for Embedded Systems. It aims at raising awareness of the overall embedded systems community about the technology transfer and industrialisation process in the space and aeronautics industries and gives an indication of what is generally missing between R&D and product development.
