Tundra Tsi109 Host Bridge Integrates with VadaTech PMC710 PrPMC Module

Tundra Semiconductor Corporation (TSX: TUN), the leader in System Interconnect, today announced that the Tundra Tsi109 Host Bridge, the industry’s highest performing host bridge for PowerPC, will be integrated into the VadaTech PMC710 PrPMC (Processor PCI Mezzanine Card) module, demonstrating Tundra’s strength as a leading supplier of host bridges for PowerPC.

The Tsi109′s innovative feature set and high reliability, backed by outstanding design support, provides designers with:

  • Greater overall system performance
  • Reduced system design complexity
  • Superior power efficiency

Tundra Tsi109 Host Bridge

The Tsi109 host bridge sets industry benchmarks for performance and power management through an innovative feature set supported by world-class design support. This host bridge supports a dual processor bus at 167 MHz, which enables higher system compute performance. The Tsi109′s superior memory pipeline offers industry-leading memory bandwidth and an optimized PCI-X interface provides greater I/O-to-memory throughput. In addition to 2.5 Watt typical power dissipation, the Tsi109 supports DDR2 memory, which makes this host bridge the ideal choice for high-density, power-sensitive applications. The combination of the Tsi109′s features and reliability with Tundra’s world-class support provides designers with the benefits of greater overall system performance, reduced system design complexity, better integration and superior power efficiency.

Superior Performance at a Lower Cost
Tundra’s growing portfolio of Host Bridges for PowerPC delivers industry-leading system performance, power and cost for customers in the wireless and wireline networking, storage and embedded computing markets. Tundra Host Bridges offer designers best system performance-per-watt as well as best system performance-per-dollar and are ideal companion chips for Freescale MPC74xx high-performance processors. The combination of the Tsi109′s rich feature set and high reliability with Tundra’s outstanding design support has been well received by the industry’s leading PowerPC product vendors such as VadaTech Inc.

Recently announced, the VadaTech PMC710 is a PrPMC that combines the Tsi109 host bridge with a high-performance Freescale MPC7448 PowerPC processor to leverage the speed and efficiency of this best-in-class processor. The PMC710 offers advantages over other solutions due to its flexibility to update the CPU while maintaining the rest of the subsystem I/O. By using the DDR2-compliant Tsi109, the PMC710 optimizes key benefits of DDR2 over DDR; lower system cost, lower power dissipation and better signal integrity. The Tsi109′s high-performance PCI-X bus and memory bus provides the best throughput available which allows the PMC710 to be the industry’s fastest PrPMC available. The PMC710 has a modular form factor which makes this PrPMC well-suited for many high-performance, power-sensitive applications.

“Our customers demand high-speed PMCs that minimize power consumption and reduce overall system costs,” said Saeed Karamooz, president and CEO of VadaTech Inc. “Our PMC710, combined with Tundra’s DDR2-compliant host bridge, delivers the fastest CPU performance while reducing overall system costs due to the Tsi109′s low power consumption – a huge benefit in demanding environments such as avionics and defense.”

Without any need to change I/O software, the Tsi109 provides an excellent upgrade path to dual processor versions of the PMC. VadaTech will be integrating the Tsi109 into its Dual CPU PrPMC, the PMC712, which is ideal for use in high-performance and power sensitive applications in communications, defense/aerospace, and industrial control. The PMC712 is scheduled to be released in June 2006. Customers can easily upgrade their Tsi109 to access higher performance and next-generation I/O connectivity with other Tundra host bridges such as the Tsi110TM with PCI Express(R) connectivity.

The Tsi109 is available in both standard and lead-free packages for commercial and industrial temperatures. Volume pricing for the Tsi109 is under $75USD.
