Mimer Information Technology today announces that the company is extending its Mimer SQL relational database management system with real-time capabilities. With this extension, it is for the first time possible to share real-time data and non-real time data at run-time using one single database manager. This opens up a new field in industrial application development, where efficient and predictable real-time data access can be seamlessly combined with administrative databases.
The Mimer SQL, Real-Time Edition, is based on a research project at the Malardalen Real-Time Research Centre with input from automotive, process automation and telecommunication industries. The product makes it possible to model both real-time and non real-time data in one single database, and data can safely be shared between these two worlds without any need for data redundancy and home-made data storage solutions.
“With the Mimer SQL, Real-Time Edition, it is possible to access real-time data from any SQL-based application or tool without jeopardizing the hard real-time requirements. We are very pleased to be able to offer this as the first DBMS vendor in the world,” says Bengt Gunne, Development Director at Mimer Information Technology.
“The fact that Mimer is including the results of the research project at Malardalen Real-Time Research Centre in their database product is a good example of cooperation between academia and industry. It is a crystal-clear trend that the amount and complexity of information in embedded real-time systems is rapidly increasing, and that such a product provides an important piece of the puzzle.” says Christer Norström, Professor in Computer Science at the Malardalen Real-Time Research Centre, Malardalen University.
Mimer is looking for industry partners with real-time data management requirements that are interested in influencing the final product developments. These partners will get early access to Mimer SQL, Real-Time Edition, in the second half of 2006.
