Ubiwave and ZMD announced the availability of its complete ‘sub-1 GHz workbench’ solution built on top of the ZMD44102 RF transceiver. The ZMD44102 is being launched by ZMD at the Embedded Systems Show in San Jose, California. The ZMD44102 is the only commercially available IEEE 802.15.4 compliant sub-1 GHz transceiver and is software configurable to operate in frequency bands available in most parts of the world.
The sub-1 GHz workbench solution complements Ubiwave’s existing offering of 2.4GHz solutions already deployed in the fields of safety & security and healthcare. It opens up the field for specific applications where range and performance requirements cannot be met by other technologies, e.g. in the field of asset management and automated meter reading (‘AMR’). These solutions need low power, long range communication, and very high reliability, now offered by the combination of the UbiNet(TM) mesh networking protocol and the ZMD44102.
The UbiNet(TM) mesh network solution is a one-stop-shop offering for integrating wireless mesh technology into sensor products. It comprises of three essential components:
- The CN07 hardware module with the ZMD44102 transceiver: mesh network module optimized for low bit rate, low power and long range applications
- UbiNet(TM) communication stack: one of the world’s most powerful mesh networking stacks, available in a ZigBee 1.1 ready version (UbiNet(TM) Z) as well as in a mesh network version where all nodes are low-power, including the routing nodes (UbiNet(TM) Synchronized Wake Up(TM)).
- UbiNet(TM) Workbench: a set of software tools to aid the development, installation, commissioning and field operation of wireless mesh networks. The UbiNet(TM) workbench operates in symbiosis with the UbiNet(TM) communication stack and CN07 sub-1 GHz module. Workbench tools such as the ‘Embedded Application Builder’ and the ‘Control Panel Builder’ allow existing (wired) sensor applications to be easily and rapidly enhanced with wireless mesh technology.
