Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Company, today announced that it has joined the Oracle PartnerNetwork as a partner and is now distributing Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database as part of the RTI Distributed Data Management platform for real-time systems.
RTI Distributed Data Management (formerly SkyBoard) provides applications with high-performance access to real-time data across multiple computers, both Enterprise and embedded. By coupling Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database with RTI real-time data distribution and database replication technology, RTI Distributed Data Management maintains a global virtual database that can be accessed at local memory speeds by each computer within a distributed system. Resource-constrained computers without a local database replica can also store and retrieve data from the global database, providing access to edge devices and embedded computers such as handhelds and sensors.
With RTI Distributed Data Management, local Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database access requires less than 20 microseconds. This provides throughput of tens of thousands of transactions per second per processor, regardless of where in the network data originated.
RTI Distributed Data Management includes completely standards-based application programming interfaces, providing both ease-of-use and ease-of-integration. Applications running on processors with a local instance of Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database can use standard SQL via ODBC (for C/C++) and JDBC (for Java-based drivers). All processors, including embedded systems, can access the same global database using RTI Data Distribution Service (formerly NDDS), which complies with the Object Management Group’s (OMG’s) Data Distribution Service (DDS) for Real-time Systems standard. Support for both SQL and DDS makes it easy to integrate RTI Distributed Data Management with existing applications and allows developers to take advantage of the interface best suited for each component of their application.
“This unique partnership combines the strengths of both Oracle and RTI in targeting mission-critical real-time data needs,” explained David Barnett, vice president of Product Management at RTI. “Oracle’s expertise in data management brings a new dimension to real-time systems that are increasingly dependent on fast and reliable data storage. Combined with RTI database synchronization and data distribution technology, the result is an unbeatable solution for fast data access in networked systems.”
RTI Distributed Data Management with Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database offers much higher performance, determinism and availability than traditional database and distributed data management solutions. Consequently, it provides a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) alternative to custom-built data structures and data replication, which have traditionally been required by distributed applications with demanding performance and fault-tolerance requirements. The use of a COTS solution with RTI Distributed Data Management accelerates time-to-market, reduces development costs and increases application flexibility and scalability while allowing developers to take advantage of industry-standard interfaces and proven technology.
